Charity Match - Blind Lane West Hanningfield 28th May 2006

19 anglers fished in Ed Pearces' latest match in his St Lukes Hospice series at Blind Lane - New Match lake. Special disposition by owner to fish during close season. - thank You

Weather Bright with some strong sunshine - temp 16C, Wind S 10 mph

Peg position spread out to equalize any fish movement effects due to angling pressure on this 46 peg Venue.
I fished Fished Feeder - and match rod with Puddle Chucker from 'Peg 2'. Never felt so disappointed after a match - all around were catching regular - but I only had few small common carp to the feeder on Sweetcorn carp few & far between - caught hitting a feeder to the far point bank and rolling down the bank edge - The carp must have been feeding on worms from the bank - the only natural food - Come off a foot no bites, - The fish appear still be to shoaled up after the recent rain. - Best fishing came from fishing tight to a feature - No feature - nothing much in the way of fish. Which was shown by the weights - ranging from the winner at 114lb an last at 7lb - I managed to put together 8lb 8oz equal between carp and the plentiful Roach. Olly Wagg amassed a bag of 20lb of Silvers - they were so small that I remarked that he must have been trawling for them. - But well done all the same !
I tried all sorts of hook lengths / set ups to get through these small fish but gave up and fished for them for a two hour period. I was still catching 1/2 oz roach on Size 14 and 5 maggots - Pellet / Sweetcorn no effect - Even the winner caught on feeder / maggot. They were not ready for the advanced baits yet.

At least the weather was kind and I got sunburned - Not bad for a generally poor bank Holiday and previous 10 days weather wise.

There should be some photo's shortly on the new Dynamites Bait Website http://www.dynamitebaits.com/ who sponsored the event with some prizes, when it is up and running - June

Next Up Pea Lane in the Lee Chapel Sunday League. I have not fished there before so should be interesting

No bites on Worm, Sweetcorn. Visteon Basildon Annual Staff vs. Hourly Paid Match - Newlands Hall Park Lake 14th May 2006

Staff won Match 41-67 - makes 3rd year in a row.

Top Three :
Paul (the Cat) Mansfeild (S) - peg 1 64lb, Mike Hacker (S) Peg 9 (55lb), Dave Eliss (h) (38lb)

I fished Peg 11 - Sizeable carp in this peg hard to come by - Best method was with Elasticated Whip (6) fished in front of clump to left of peg with single red maggot over mixed pellet / hemp in 12" of water
'Bagged up' on small Crucians - very shy bites - slightest of touches on the dibber - Over 100 fish for 10Lb 8ozs !!

Lee Chapel Sunday Match - Stambridge 7th May 2006 0900 >1500 hrs

Fished from Peg 14 at 10 metres & close in 3 metres. Using Waggler as quick fish in, hook, out, Net, Bait, In, method with Fish in Swim.
Baits: Sweetcorn and Mainly Single Red Maggot - Size 18 / 2lb Hooklink fish 2 inches over depth was best set-up for fish present in Swim which were small Skimmers and Hybrids. to 3/4lb.
Sweetcorn produced the better Skimmers. –
Total weight 20lb 7oz in 6 hr Match. Position 4th.
The Brothers Wagg finished 1st & 2nd - Olly (29Lb Mixed Bag 2 nice Carp) and Mick (Tiggy) 21lb of Silvers - who also fished with Waggler / Maggot. Ron Price finished 3rd with a mixed bag which beat me by 1oz.
Two other talking points - 3 eels caught, two at the same time by Gary / John on adjacent Pegs.
The true 'highlight’ of the day was 'Boozy' taking 35 minutes to land a double carp on size 8 elastic - bank it then handing into the keep net it slipped at the vital moment & bounced off the keep net band and into the lake - A potential Match winning fish gone.

So it is 'Taxi' for Boozy

Weds 3rd May 2006 - Quick Fish

Fished from peg 13 - 1800-2000 hrs
Single ledger with Frozen 20mm pineapple boilie under Tree and with hairrigged Sweetcorn (x2)with small middy in line method feeder with Swimstim Method Mix.
Not a touch on the ledger but a skimmer and 3 1/2Lb Common (which thinks it is a Crucian) on the method.
Olly fished from Peg 9 out in the middle and by the clump next to peg 7 -l both rods ledger with pineapple boilie - Small tench from under the clump.
Time for a bait change me thinks.
