A nice fresh bright morning greeted us on our arrival and a hearty breakfast in the new on site café was superb – Set for the day. Target for the day – enjoy it 6 hours of peace & quiet and catch a couple of fish will do me.

Dues paid and the draw made – Olly was disappoint with his – He ha been checking the lake all of the last week and the Eastern bank pegs were fishing well. I drew peg 17 on that favoured side.

Decided to set up on small Middy ¾ oz in line maggot feeder with 2 foot size 18 2.5Lb hook link for the mid range work to the island bar in the middle and pole for close in.

1st cast an in straight away with chublets – Don’t they fight well – Then another and another then a small Pristine Mirror followed by a few more chublets then another mirrors on around 4lb.

This carried on for an 2 hours all on single red maggot and I felt I was the only one catching then and my initial target of catching a few turn into a possible win – Bang should never have such thoughts – they moved away – Steve Barrett started to catch on Peg 19 and Steve Ellis started to catch on peg 16 -Peg 15 really as that is where he was really fishing – (no one in that peg) – Steve B was catching the quality stuff.

I came in close but nothing could not get a bite on maggot, paste, pellet, caster, and worm. I walked round to Steve B to se what he using – couldn’t see but he suggested I try Corn –which I did and bang 2 nice small commons straight away – Thought Steve had cracked it for me, but then dead again.

The two Steves were still catching regularly, then Steve E’s bites dried up and guess what – I started again – Unfortunately there was only 15mins to the all out – but by spraying red maggot to island and position on the bar I was getting a fish a chuck nothing big but nice fish all the same. All a little too late but would it get me in the points I guess Paul Pratley had done well as every time I booked up he was pulling something in. Could not see anyone else so not sure how I fared.

I weighed in 28lb 2oz and I was chuffed with that and included a small Barbel – my 2nd only - both this year.– Steve Barrett had already weighed in 55lb 8 and had a nervous weight for the last weigh in which was Kev Keeley – Weighed in 11lb of silvers then the Carp net – Steve picked up and put on the scales went round to a shade over 40lb – Yee ha – Steve had finally done – won that 1st Ever Sunday match ! Well done Steve – about time !!!

I finished 5th – Given the target for the day – a good result for me. As for Boozy well he weighed in 14ln 8oz, then found a carp of about 1lb still in his net after the weigh in - Would not have affected his position. The carp also thankfully recovered OK So all’s well that end’s well.
