Olly Blanks but still Wins Sunday League Lee Chapel Sunday League Match – 4th Feb 2007 – LCL

Temp: 4 -7°C
Wind: E (8 mph)
Relative Humidity (%): 82,
Pressure (mB): 1028, Falling,
Visibility: Good
Olly Wagg clinched the 2006/7 Sunday league match without catching a fish with only one Match remaining. That’s the Fishing equivalent of Manchester United winning the Premiership with on the penultimate weekend when getting thrashed 6-0 !!!
A nippy start to the day saw 15 – Yes 15 anglers pay up and draw – Of the top Four in contention vying for those top positions three Olly drew peg 20 – dead opposite me on peg 12 whilst Kev Keeling drew 16 & Steve Barrett Peg 10.
During Set Olly announce to the lake that it was my 29th Wedding Anniversary. Boozy immediately stated that I should be dunked at the end of the day – to which my retort was that for my next Anniversary I certainly will – not here though but in the Indian ocean!!!
It looked like it could be a good day – With his 1st put in using pole / Pinkie (not sure of the rig set Kev K had an immediate take from a lump that pulled his light elastic for the 1st 30 mins before the rig gave way. Shortly after I had a Tench to feeder (3/4 oz Middy inline to 6” 1lb hook link / Size 20 hook / single red maggot) – Yes a Tench of around 1 &1/2 Lbs. During the fight I was convinced it was an eel and was surprised to see a Tench, Not the only one about an hour Later the eventual Match winner Mick Byrne over on peg 24 had one also- but caught a couple of small Carp at what you could call regular time periods for a total of 16lb!
Rob Blackburn & John Buck and each had Mirror Carp to 8lb to take 2nd & 3rd place respectively. (John had lost a good one earlier in the 1st hour. Whilst all that was going on Paul Pratley and Gary Somerfield were putting together reasonable nags of Silvers on the Lower Road bank pegs. Olly Wagg decided to make his own entertainment by firing boilies across the lake at us on the Road bank. I collected a few and return fire striking a direct hit !!! But given the way it was going I don’t think he cared – he was sat there in pole position. The minor positions went to Paul, Gary and Kev with me finishing just outside of the main points at 7th.
That makes it interesting – By my calculation Olly won by a preverbal mile with 95 Pts – with just appoint between me & Kev for 2nd & 3rd with Steve Barrett who squeaked appoint with a roach of 1oz sat nicely in fourth just a further 5 points before Kev.
Should make the last match interesting with 4 anglers vying for the remaining trophy places.
