Inter Club Challenge Match – Lee Chapel vs. Aveley – Return Match – Cranham Lake 24th Sept 2006
Weather Cloudy Sunny Spells 18°C
SE (5 mph)
Relative Humidity (%): 79,
Pressure (mB): 1006, Rising,
Visibility: Very good
Another smashing day in the company of our Friends in Aveley Club.
Taking a 33 point into this 2nd & final match in the mini series Lee Chapel look favorites to take the overall match before the draw as Aveley were 3 anglers short of the ten angler team – Lee Chapel also were one short.
Draw was made with Lee Chapel on evens and Aveley the odds - We were quite well spread out on this 42 peg lake – ( See Post from July on Charity Match I fished there for details).
Fishing was hard all day – I started on the feeder and had a couple of 1 oz Perch, cam in close on the waggler then the pole – a few more small perch, - Came in close as Martin Haimowitz (Aveley) was having success on a regular basis @ 9m with single maggot. I heard a splash down towards the far end – couldn’t see but sounded big – Reports filtered up that Steve Barret had landed a 20lber Carp. It was low for everyone – As the Sun came out and the wind dropped I could see the Golden Grass carp just below the surface near the central pontoon. Then could see other carp cruising as well – Decided to revert to the tactic I use in July Long waggler with no shot on the hook length and fish on the drop – immediate success with getting the small Chublets – Good news as Barry Cope had reported that none had been caught recently and feared the Black Death had got them. The club has a license to cull and indeed one licensee (Andy ) was there when we arrived but no kills – it saw me coming he said.
I wish I had done this earlier – Just then Olly who was opposite me on peg 36 got into a lump on the pole using the Special paste close in. he landed a 13lb – Good one – I felt confident that we would win the overall match from that position – A few Chublet later and the whistle blew at 2pm - The scales told the tale and Lee Chapel ran out overall winners with a healthy 51 Point margin. 66 to 217.
Whilst packing up Boozy made a comment that he didn’t want a mention in the Blog this week. Oh dear I guess I have – But want he meant is that he did not a mention that he only managed 2 small perch for an oz, but I would not shame in that way would I. remember Steve you did finished 3rd in the 1st Match So you contributed 19 points – Nothing to be ashamed about.
