Lee Chapel Sunday League Match - Tylers Common (Willow Lake) 3rd September 2006
Weather:
Cloudy then sunny intervals 20-27°C
SW (16 mph) Blustery at times Gusting to 40 Mph
Relative Humidity (%): 69,
Pressure (mB): 1009, Rising,
Visibility: Very good.
You know what pegs you do not want to draw when the weather is like this on this fishery the warm wind from the SW for the past few days falling baro and overcast - Pegs 1 or 25 - The opposite of Blind Lane last month 1 & 25 would have been the ones, So no surprise to me when I pulled number 25 from the bag and who had the hot pegs on east bank No guessing - the big boys !! Olly and Co although Steve Barrett and Alan Gammon were of the West bank with me - but they all have that secret weapon - the 'Paste' I really need to know where this comes from.
Back to my peg in the corner - Nowhere to fish really - just off the shelf or long. Already made up my mind that it was to be a feeder day today. At the whistle in it went long with a single red maggot and maggot feeder size 16 Wide Gape Preston PR291 - The tip went round almost immediately, nice little common of 1 and 1/2 lb to start with. In again and another me thinks wont be so bad after all - a fish a chuck with the wind on my back so not having to fish into the wind the the big boys. But a false dawn - I had nothing apart from small Rudd until 2.30pm. Even went up to size 12 and 20 maggots and still getting Rudd. Tries Skintz, Sweetcorn, Meat worm - withe the method not a bite. Kev Wagg drew the other 'bad' peg number 1. He gave up at 11.30pm and went off home. Meanwhile Olly Wagg was bagging em down on that =eats bank on the 'Paste' , But he did do a 'Boozy' with one and missed the keep net - I wondered how costly that might be.
Then at 2.30pm - hello I had some fish in my swim - found them on the ledge - they must have got fed up with the paste and cam for some real food, - good old double red maggot. Getting a fish a chuck and even getting them in the tail on the drop - Just an empty Middy In Line Method feeder.
Lost a couple through hooks pulls - I had gone down to a size 16. - If only I had this catch rate all day -would have been over 100lb - but there is always what if's.
Still not a bad Day 693Lb of Fish weighed in with Olly Wagg topping the pile with 132Lb. I knew that Boozy would be costly - If it had gone in the keep net then he would have had the biggest bag of the year - Taking over Alan Gammon's 134 1/2 Lb at Clavering
