Off to bright but windy(as per normal) start to the New Big John's Sunday League.

16 Anglers drew for this inaugural match. I drew Peg 9 and would be fishing into the wind. Olly Drew the Hot Peg no 4 (Won the matches held on this lake for the past week or so). For the 2nd match running I had my Match fishing 'Partner' Boozy to my left on peg 10.

It took me an eternity to set up - The Pole - I have to get better at this ! I set up on two Rigs one for paste, one for Pellet at the Margin shelf (9m) and on the shelf at 5m respectively.
Then quickly set up on my favourite Middy 3/4 oz in line maggot feeder and a windcheater Waggler on my Match Rod.

However was able to 'drown' my 1st maggot at mid lake at the whistle on the feeder. In top a small carp straight away but pulled the hook - Re baited and recast - again straight into another small carp with the same result then repeated again. Si i went up to a size 16 from 18 and was able to land the next one.

You get into a rhythm but only get small fish - but a pleasure to catch such hard fighting fish- no winter lethargy with these. They were averaging 6-8oz. I came in on the pole but the persistent wind made it too uncomfortable and presentation was not right resulting in no bites, so went back onto the feeder slowly coming in form the middle as each time the swim went Quiet.

Boozy persisted with the pole as was rewarded with a 8lb Mirror lump that puled the elastic but did not fight. He a one of around 5lb a little later on. Meanwhile Ed peace was getting a fish a chuck -(also on feeder opposite me) but was getting better results - i.e. bigger fish. I tried several bait changes - Corn, pellet, worm - but only thing to get regular bites was Triple red maggot. on a 6" Size 16 Hook Link.

I occasionally looked to right at Olly but did not see him catch much more then - but he was! as the scales showed at the weigh in with Ed going 60+ and Olly in 2nd with 55 ish

I think I cam a distant 8th with 26lb 6oz and I thought I had reasonable day - Boozy was either 4th / 5th with 45 ish.

As they say there is always next time., and all that time setting the pole up - I should have set up the feeder in 15mins and drunk my coffee - Over 65 fish for 26lb was busy all day
